What are the differences between Silica Sol and Water Glass casting?
Silica sol casting uses high-grade zircon sand slurry, yielding a highly refractory surface with minimal roughness (Ra 3.2-6.3) and high dimensional tolerance (CT4-CT6). Water glass casting uses sodium silicate binder, resulting in rougher surface finishes and wider tolerances (CT7-CT9). Silica sol is the preferred choice for stainless steel castings.
Which stainless steel grades do you cast and machine?
We cast standard grades such as CF8 (AISI 304), CF8M (AISI 316), CF3 (304L), and CF3M (316L). We also process precipitation hardening steels (17-4PH) and duplex alloys (2205, 2507) for marine valves, pump impellers, and chemical mixers.
What are the maximum and minimum wall thickness limits for casting?
Generally, we achieve minimum wall thicknesses of 1.5mm for small, localized details in stainless steel investment casting. The maximum thickness recommendation is around 75mm to prevent casting voids, shrinkage cavities, and structural issues.
What secondary finishes and CNC operations can you provide?
We offer a complete secondary processing suite. This includes heat treatment (solution annealing, tempering, quenching, precipitation hardening), surface finishes (mirror polishing, electropolishing, sand blasting, passivating), and precision CNC milling and turning to reach final tolerances of up to ±0.005mm.
