Vietnam's Industrial Transformation: The Role of Investment Casting

How precise metallurgy supports the Vietnam market's push toward high-tech automotive, electronics, and maritime infrastructure.

Automotive & EV Production

Vietnam’s domestic automotive manufacturing sector, driven by brands like VinFast, requires precision casting for structural elements, engine blocks, and electrical system casings capable of enduring rigorous vibration profiles.

Maritime & Chemical Resilience

With over 3,000 km of coastline, Vietnam's shipbuilding and chemical processing industries demand high-grade CF8M/316 marine-grade stainless steel to resist localized pitting and aggressive saltwater corrosion.

Advanced Electronics Hubs

As global technology manufacturers set up shop in northern provinces like Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen, there is a mounting demand for lightweight, thin-walled precision hardware with high electrical conductivity.

Solving Global Procurement Hurdles for Vietnamese OEMs

Managing localized metal casting lines inside Vietnam often carries risks related to tooling inconsistencies, chemical deviation in raw material ingots, and limited post-treatment machining facilities. These deficiencies can cause unexpected breakdowns in assembly plants.

Dongguan SX Technology addresses these issues by offering a integrated production solution. Located in Dongguan, the hardware manufacturing capital, we provide high-grade molds, multi-stage casting processes, and finish CNC machining under one roof. Our logistics network ensures direct customs-cleared shipping to industrial hubs such as Hai Phong Port, Cat Lai Port in Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang.

The Engineering & Metallurgy Roadmap

How we achieve superior mechanical integrity and dimensions through control in lost wax casting.

1. Material Integrity & Chemical Composition

To prevent failures in industrial valves, pumps, and engine brackets, our lab tests raw material batches using optical emission spectrometers (OES). We verify carbon, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and sulfur contents to guarantee compliance with international standards (such as ASTM, DIN, EN, and JIS).

2. The Lost Wax (Investment Casting) Process

Using soluble or tooling-grade waxes, we construct highly detailed patterns that are coated in alumina-silica refractory slurries to form rigid ceramic shells. Once the wax is melted out, the hollow shell is heated to over 1000°C to prepare it for receiving molten alloys. This prevents thermal shock and allows for intricate details and thin-wall structures down to 1.5mm.

3. Multi-Axis CNC Post-Machining

While investment casting delivers near-net shapes, high-precision fits require secondary machining. Our 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC machining centers finish critical paths, seal faces, and threads, achieving tight tolerances up to ±0.005mm.

4. Surface Operations & Heat Treatment

To enhance corrosion resistance and wear profiles, we provide shot blasting, chemical passivation, electropolishing, powder coating, and thermal normalizing/annealing. This adjusts mechanical properties like tensile strength and elongation to match specific requirements.

Trade Integration & Tariff Benefits (EVFTA & CPTPP)

With the implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the CPTPP, Vietnam-based OEMs can export finished products to Europe, the Americas, and APAC markets with low or zero tariffs. However, to leverage these trade benefits, sub-components must meet strict origin regulations and structural quality standards.

Dongguan SX Technology provides the documentation, structural audits, and chemical certifications required for global customs compliance. This ensures your final product complies with regulatory frameworks worldwide.

Rapid Supply Chains to Vietnam Economic Zones

Our proximity to major logistics ports in Shenzhen and Guangzhou enables quick transit to Vietnam. Lead times are reduced, allowing you to streamline inventory schedules.

  • North Vietnam (Hai Phong/Hanoi): Delivery by sea via Haiphong Port, or overland through Guangxi border gates within 5-7 days.

Investment Casting Service FAQ

Common questions from procurement engineers and manufacturing managers in the Vietnam market.

What materials are commonly used in your investment casting processes?
For investment casting, the most commonly used materials are stainless steel (such as 304, 316, 316L, and duplex steels) and carbon steel. In our secondary CNC machining processes, we also process titanium alloys, aluminum alloys (like 6061, 7075), copper/brass alloys, and cemented carbides.
What dimensional tolerances can you achieve for custom cast parts?
For raw investment castings, we conform to standard international tolerances, such as ISO 8062-3 SFG or VDG P690 Grade D1. For precision requirements, we perform post-casting CNC machining. This allows us to achieve tolerances of up to ±0.005mm on critical features.
How do you guarantee the metallurgical quality of castings delivered to Vietnam?
Quality control is key to our processes. We utilize optical emission spectrometers (OES) to verify chemical compositions before pouring. We also offer mechanical property evaluations (tensile, hardness, impact testing) and non-destructive testing (NDT), such as dye penetrant testing (PT) and magnetic particle testing (MT). Material test reports are provided with every shipment.
What is the standard lead time for tool manufacturing and sample delivery?
Usually, tool building and initial sample casting take 3 to 4 weeks. Once samples are approved, bulk production takes 4 to 6 weeks, depending on order size and post-machining requirements. We coordinate shipping routes to minimize transit times to major Vietnamese ports.
Can you support low-volume production or custom prototyping?
Yes. We cater to low-volume prototyping needs using CNC machined billet blocks or 3D-printed wax/plastic models. This allows customers to test designs before committing to commercial steel injection tooling.
